PART 2.a - In Character Non-WH13/Eureka Canon Characters
Full Name: Alexandra Eames
Nicknames: Alex; Eames
DOB/Age: Late 40s. Her DOB isn’t mentioned in the series.
Birthplace: Never mentioned
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Species: Human
Fandom: Law and Order: Criminal Intent
Journal: seemeinabluedress
PB: Kathryn Erbe
Holoprojection Human Interface PB: N/A
Canon Point: Post Season 10

Appearance: Alex stands about 5’2”, taller with heels or boots that she tends to wear on the job. She’s Caucasian, being of Irish descent, with brown eyes and brown hair highlighted blonde…which is probably at least partially to cover what gray is starting to come in. She normally wears jeans or slacks with a sensible top and light jewelry, and in season 10 is seen wearing a plain gold band on her right index finger. When on duty, she has her badge and gun on her belt. When she’s pulled to Univille, she’s in jeans with a black shirt and black leather jacket.

History:
Alex(andra) Eames grew up in an Irish family, with a brother and sister that the series mentions. Her father is still alive, living in a New York neighborhood. She joined the NYPD in the footsteps of her father. She’s a career NYPD member, entering the police academy around 1993. Not much is known about where she worked within the NYPD, but she was with Vice for five years before joining major case. Also, in a scene where she’s wearing her uniform, she’s shown with a 25 year service bar.

She was married to Joseph Dutton, another cop, who was killed in the line of duty in 1998. At the time of his killing, the wrong person was convicted of the case, and in 2007, the case is reopened by Goren and Eames and the correct killer was arrested. She has no children of her own, although she was a surrogate for her sister.

In Criminal Intent, she’s the senior detective in her partnership with Robert Goren, along with working with Detectives Wheeler and Nichols. They end up being partners for ten years. (This was from the beginning of the series, possibly before, until the show ended.) During this time, they solve many cases, including one where Eames was kidnapped by the daughter of Goren’s mentor, who had started killing women in the same manner of Sebastian, a serial killer. Eames manages to escape after Declan Gage asks for his daughter, Jo, to be brought to the station for ‘safety’, and Alex uses that as a chance to escape the prison she’s in.

Alex is very close to her partner, Robert Goren, they were never romantically involved, but they are loyal to one another. Alex keeps in communication with him when he goes undercover in a prison (which was unauthorized by the NYPD). She gets angry when he goes undercover while on suspension and she shows up to the scene, pointing a gun at him ready to shoot.

This loyalty temporarily ends her employment with the NYPD, because she is offered a promotion to Captain after Captain Ross is killed while working with the FBI. There is a condition that she has to fire her partner in order to have the position. They end up talking about it and Goren decided to resign because he was sure he was going to get fired after some of his recent stunts. She ends up resigning shortly after. It’s not explained how they ended up back at Major Case, but they return a year later, where Alex works for an undetermined period (and the series ends without a decent ending, unfortunately.)

Previous Game History, IF APPLICABLE: N/A

Personality:
Alex is a tough cookie. The phrase ‘though she be but little, she be fierce’ describes her pretty well. She’s incredibly loyal to her partner, her captain, and her family. She’s kind and gentle with children, and tough and a hardliner with suspects and people who don’t cooperate with her and the police. Alex knows when to pull out the kid gloves and also when she needs to be tough as nails to get the information she needs.

She’s also quite sarcastic, able to snark about almost anything. “Can they print a hand gesture?” and “You should see me in a blue dress.” (After being called a devil.) She seems to be able to pull a quip out of nowhere, on any subject, even if her partner brings up some obscure fact. She doesn’t take shit from anyone, even if it’s from her partner or captain.

Due to her looks and petiteness, she’s sometimes the ‘nice cop’ to Goren’s ‘bad cop’ when interviewing suspects. She’s also not afraid to use her femininity in interviews or undercover. See her time in vice, when it’s mentioned in CI that she went undercover to catch johns. Her determination with this and her smarts, she’s made senior detective, (and in the future of the series, after I’m pulling her) becomes a lieutenant. And after working with Goren for so long, she’s picked up some of his quirks, including the ‘Goren Lean’ when interviewing subjects.

Special facts/special abilities about your character: She doesn’t have any magical abilities, lasers, or mutations, but she’s incredibly smart. She’s also detail oriented, and good at thinking through problems. She also has good aim with her sidearm. She’s good at comforting people and being tough when she needs to be.

What is arriving with your character? Her clothes, her badge & police ID, her wallet, and her sidearm. She was driving somewhere when she was camera’d, so she doesn’t have much with her.

PART 3 - Writing Samples

1. First Person Writing Sample:
Ok, someone want to explain to me exactly what happened here? And don’t spew the same thing the guy in the warehouse did. I don’t believe it, and won’t even if I hear it a second time. It doesn’t make sense, to randomly show up here like this. (Alex can be heard sighing here.)

Second thing: anyone know why I can’t get through to OPP on the phone? My cell phone isn’t working, and the number I dialed on the pay phone didn’t go through. I guess I’m going down to the local station to see what I can find out from the locals… at least my badge is still on my belt with my police ID card.

Someone fill me in on what they know?

2. Third Person Writing Sample:
Alex leaned against the SUV while she waited for Bobby. He was in with the shrink he had to see after being rehired by major case. She always waited for him. He’d waited when she had to see one after her kidnapping four years ago. She figured it was the same one, the neighborhood was familiar. He’d been different since coming back, hell, she’d been different since coming back. She was grateful for the second chance, this at least gave her hope that she could move on after Major Case and continue her work for the NYPD.

She checked her phone, finding a text from her sister, and responded before going back to her vigil outside the office. She figured it wasn’t going to be too much longer, the sessions were only an hour, and looking at her watch, it was pretty close to that. She heard her radio from inside the SUV, and she opened the door and leaned in to answer, listening to the details radioed back and making a note on her pad of paper. A new case. She responded, saying they would be there asap… at least as soon as Bobby got out of that office.

She watched as Bobby came out of the office and down the stairs. Walking to the other side of their vehicle, she stood in front of him. She explained what was going on and got back in the car, Bobby joining her in the passenger side. They joked about making it to the bank before the feds and pulled away from the curb. She stopped before turning down another street, and blinked, before opening her eyes to find herself standing in a strange warehouse before being covered with purple goop.

This was not what she expected.

3. First or Third person Sample:
The first thing she did after Alex recovered from the neutralizer? Try calling Bobby. No signal. She tried a phone in the B&B, disconnected. Stomping back up to her room, she checked out her phone again and realized that she didn’t have any signal at her phone at all here. She growled before chucking it into a pillow on ‘her’ bed in frustration. She didn’t want to break it, knowing she may need the numbers in it later.

She stuck her badge and ID in her pocket and went out of the B&B again, intent on getting some information from someone that wasn’t associated with the IRS warehouse outside of the city. She figured she could start at the police station. She had to figure out what happened, and if it was true (which she doubted) if Bobby was ok. She had been driving when she showed up here. If she disappeared from there…no. She wasn’t going to think about that until she figured out exactly what was going on.

As she walked, she took in the town, making note of the diner, the coffee shop, and various things in between. Adjusting to this small town was going to be fun, after living in New York for so long. She huffed and pulled her jacket closed… it was colder here than where she supposedly left. Finding the police station, she went in and stood at the front counter waiting for someone to come to the front. Glancing to her right, she saw a calendar hanging on the wall. April 2014… That’s not right… She was distracted when someone walked up to the counter.

“Hi, I need to get a bit of information.”
